Scam & Scones at Brunswick Men’s Shed

CyberWest Hub recently hosted a Scams and Scones session at the Brunswick Junction Community Resource Centre, bringing together local community members for an engaging and informative discussion on cyber safety.

The event was opened by Kathryn Bufton, Secretary of the Brunswick Junction Community Men's Shed, who spoke passionately about the importance of cyber awareness—especially in light of a recent cyber incident that impacted the Shed. Her remarks underscored the growing relevance of digital safety in everyday community spaces.

Serena King, from the National office of Cyber Security welcomed attendees and highlighted the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to combat cybercrime, reinforcing the national commitment to protecting Australians online.

The session featured a presentation by Caitriona Forde, our cyber expert, who shared practical insights and strategies to help participants identify scams and protect themselves online.

Our Project and Engagement Lead, Chris Leong 梁耀兴 was also present to answer questions and provide information about the Hub’s broader initiatives in cyber education and community engagement.

Events like these demonstrate the power of local collaboration in building cyber resilience and ensuring that no one is left behind in the digital age.
